Why see an endodontist
Endodontists limit their practices to do only root
canals and other endodontic treatments.
Endodontists are college graduates and dental
school graduates who then complete a minimum
of two years postdoctoral specialist education.
They are trained in oral pathology, diagnosis, how
to treat difficult cases and how to do
microperiapical surgery to save teeth. There are
about 4000 endodontists in the USA.

Our practice
A large part of our practice is repairing previous
doctor's root canals. We often do microsurgery to
remove cysts and repair teeth that can not be
saved with routine root canal treatment. Many of
our referring doctors do root canal treatments and
send the challenging cases to us.

Cysts around roots
About 1% of teeth that have had root canals form
cysts even when the root canal treatment was very
well done. Cysts must be surgically removed or they
will cause further damage.
